GEORGE TOWN, a pulsating core of Penang, stands out not just for its rich history and diverse culture but also for its transformation into an open-air gallery of street art.
This living tapestry of public artworks tells stories that are as enchanting and complex as the city itself. From Ernest Zacharevic’s “Children on a Bicycle” to the countless unnamed murals that colour the city’s alleyways, each piece is a thread in the vibrant cultural fabric of George Town.

Walking through the city is akin to wandering through an art exhibition. Its street art scene exploded following the 2012 George Town Festival when Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic was commissioned to breathe life into the city’s walls. His series of murals, including the iconic “Children on a Bicycle,” not only captivated locals and tourists alike but also sparked a street art movement across the city.
