UNITED STATES-based Benchmark Precision Technologies has officially expanded its presence in Penang with the opening of its fourth manufacturing facility.
The latest facility, located in Batu Kawan Industrial Park (BKIP), spans approximately 8,000 square metres and includes additional expansion space for future development.
This complements the company’s other three facilities in Bayan Lepas.
Key capabilities at the new facility include robotic welding, precision sheet metal, and frame fabrication, further strengthening Benchmark’s manufacturing expertise.
Benchmark Precision Technologies Group president Datuk Dr Bala Murugan stressed that the expansion enhances the company’s vertical integration capabilities, streamlines operations, and accelerates time-to-market for customer products while maintaining the highest quality standards.
“We expanded our Penang footprint to increase capacity for both new and existing customers, particularly in anticipation of growth in the semiconductor industry by 2025 and beyond.
“Our newest facility integrates essential capabilities, including electronics manufacturing services, precision machining, frame manufacturing, system integration, and post-manufacturing support,” Dr Bala said during the opening ceremony.
The event was attended by Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Dr Bala added that the new facility is expected to create up to 200 new jobs over the coming years, adding to Benchmark’s existing workforce of 1,500 in Penang.
“This expansion underscores our commitment to Penang’s economic growth and aligns with our strategic roadmap for the region,” he said.
Chow congratulated Benchmark on this significant milestone, calling it a testament to the company’s commitment to growth and innovation in the region.
“The grand opening of Benchmark Precision Technologies’ new facility marks an exciting new chapter.
“The ongoing collaboration between the Penang government and the industry fosters opportunities for growth and development that benefit us all.
“I also extend my gratitude to the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) and InvestPenang for their efforts in maintaining Penang’s status as a preferred investment location,” Chow said.
Other distinguished attendees included Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik, InvestPenang chief executive officer Datuk Loo Lee Lian, Penang Mida director Muhammad Ghaddaffi Sardar Mohamed, Benchmark chief executive officer and president Jeff Benck, and Benchmark chief operating officer Dave Valkanoff.
